Casual Seating || Bar Stool Edition

One of my favourite features to our kitchen is the counter seating. Whenever we have family and friend gatherings everyone seems to congregate in the kitchen while I cook. Don’t get me wrong, I love the company but this set of seating has really come in handy many a time.

Casual seating is a great feature to add when your space can accommodate for it. Bar seating or counter seating; either way it’s another piece of furniture with that welcoming feel like you want them to “stay a while.” When we host large seasonal gatherings like Christmas or Thanksgiving, this counter sit up doubles as the “kids” table for extra seating at meal time. It has become a must in terms of functionality for hosting with ease.

I’ve been on the hunt to find a rustic glamour bar stool like the Trudell bar from The Brick. From its clean-cut design to the broad swaths of treated wood, this elevated chair is solidly built and designed to transcend the trends. The pine surface has been subtly wire brushed for a more natural look. Meanwhile, the golden brown finish raises these attractive details to your attention. Small Space Design Solutions || Baby Nursery Edition

I love the styling challenge of a small space, it makes you consider the function of every piece of furniture. Harper’s room is easily the smallest room in our house. Technically, without a closet it’s considered a small home office. With the layout of our house I prefer to have her in this small space then further away from our master bedroom. With that being said, we really wanted to find three key pieces for her nursery. The first being the obvious… a crib. I wanted something traditional in a metallic but still fit the sleep safety standards of today. Over the years I’ve seen many beautiful cribs in antique stores that look a lot like this one but none of them fit the standards of sleep safety that we have today. Introducing the Monarch crib from The Brick, get a beautiful brand new crib with that vintage look. This scratch-proof, scuff-proof gold frame also accommodates three mattress heights. Which, as you know was a big selling point for us. Harper is off the charts for height and needs to already be on the lowest setting. Plus, with each purchase of this gorgeous crib proceeds go to Little Seeds Animal Habitat initiative. Next we needed a change table that still had some storage. This was a challenge because the majority we liked in this style were far too wide or long for our space. The Monarch change table is the perfect touch of gold metallic to any nursery and it’s a space saver with several shelves for storage. The steel tubes finished in non-toxic gold paint and dotted with crafted ball castings are reminiscent of the wrought iron furnishings of the Victorian era. Finally The Soft Modern Sideboard is the perfect example of how you can find a piece of furniture you love and convert it into what you need for your space. Traditionally this side board would be used in the dining room but It has so much storage it easily fits all of her small clothing. I love the modern feel and look. Plus it’ll be a piece of furniture we can use down the road in another room. When designing a nursery of any size you’ll need to cover these three bases: Sleep, diaper changes and storage. Home Decor || My love for round mirrors continues…

We all know I’m always on the hunt for a great mirror. Easily my favorite decorating trick to open up a room and make it appear even bigger. For the living room I’ve been looking for a large round mirror for quite some time. We found this gorgeous Oryx mirror from The Brick just in time for our Spring refresh of our home. I love the gold detail, modern feel and minimal profile. The size was also a big selling point for me, I struggled to find large round mirrors with a minimalist frame. The majority were half the size or had too decorarive a border for my design needs. With Spring in the air we find ourselves adding a few more accents to each room as we tidy and move the winter items to storage. Continue reading →

Home Decor with @TheBrick #AD || Stylish Storage Solutions || Entry Way Edition

The entryway battle is real… our family rushes into the door and half of what they are wearing plops down into our small front door space. Nothing drives me more crazy, the coat and boot clutter that erupts several times a day. You don’t have to have kids to experience this recurring phenomenon daily. Entryways can be a difficult space to balance style and function. I’ve been looking over a year to find some modern minimalist furniture pieces that were could solve our storage problems. I love the North Avenue collection from The Brick. They have tons of pieces that will fit any space: from desks, coats racks to shelving units this line has so many modern storage solutions.

We added the North Avenue coat rack for the obvious reason, we have a lot of jackets! I like to use the closet to hang most of our outerwear but we keep current favs out on the rack for easy access. Plus, it has three shelves adding even more storage for keys, bags, and gloves.

Next, we opted for both the short and tall North Avenue bookcases. I love that I can add stylish accessories, like this honey comb candle holder I found instore at The Brick to the upper shelves. Then store shoes on the lower racks, so the kids have them at their level.

#AD Emerald Green & Navy Blue OH MY! || LivingRoom Refresh with @TheBrick

I know that I’ve hinted at this transformation on my IG story and peeked your design interest a few weeks ago. I’m so excited for the final reveal of this living room transformation. This month I styled The Brick’s new Tatum sofa and loveseat to modernized my sister’s main living space: the family room. When I saw the stunning deep blue leather of the Tatum I knew I needed this stand out piece to work my design around. The clean modern lines are so classic and the wipeable leather is perfect for a family with children. I added the off-white Loft shag rug to make the space look large, airy and open. And paired the sofa with this stunning art piece I found in store at The Brick. As a forewarning, the art and mirror are not available online but they may be at a location near you. They get new accessories often, so I urge you to take a look at your local store. You never know what you could find.

Once you’ve decluttered a place, I like to add back in little comforts to make the space warm and inviting. Pick a few pillows and throws that fit your design colours. Finally, add a plant or two. They clean the air and the greenery is an easy completer piece to complete the look of the room.

I love pairing deep blues with accents of golds and emerald. It’s such a rich palette that easily pairs with dark wood flooring or brown brick. I picked up this gorgeous gold lantern in store from The Brick. Don’t be afraid to add some colour when purchasing furniture. It can add a statement to your room and create an unforgettable design palette.
