Home || Our Patio Transformation with @TheBrick || Top 3 questions answered

This summer we partnered with The Brick to transform our little outdoor space into a backyard entertaining oasis. Since we revealed all our hard work, you have asked so many questions! Thank you for that! No really! I appreciate all the emails and direct messages, those kinds of conversations are my favourite part about blogging. A few themes started to arise from your messages… many of the questions were the same, so I thought I would do a follow up Q&A patio style!

Let’s Talk Lounge Furniture:

Some of the most asked questions were about our lounging set… What is it made of? Is it durable? Will it hold up to weather, toddlers and that giant dog? Will the color fade? Do you have to conditioning or paint it? Good Luck keeping it looking that way… I guess that wasn’t a question. But you get the point.

We went with The Park Terrace patio set because it’s made of durable UV resistant resin or all weather wicker. We wanted something that will last over the years with zero upkeep compared to real wicker or wood options.

I was very torn because it does come in a brown/natural colour option but I loved the sleek black for our design theme. It’s completely wipeable, which for us with two babies and a dog is a blessing. So far I’ve been lucky spot treating the fabric quickly after a spill or two.

Let’s Talk Accessories:

Where did you find your accessories? Are those outdoor items? Are they kid friendly?

Almost every accessory you see is from The Brick. Most were in-store purchases, every location is different and has a variety of in-store purchases not listed online. So I’m sorry I couldn’t link those up for you but you should go to your local location to take a look. You never know what you could find.

All the lighting is outdoor solar panelled, the dishes and cups are plastic making them kid friendly. Those items I found at Canadian Tire.

Let’s Talk About This Fire Place:

Where did you find that fireplace? How heavy is it? Does it run on a gas line? Does it give off heat for guests? How often do you use it?

Within 1 day of posting our patio transformation I had over 15 DM’s on Insta Stories asking where I found this modern fire table… of course THE BRICK!!! It’s super lightweight, even I can move it if I need to. We keep it in it’s cover between uses. We have it hooked up to a propane tank and use it at least 2 evenings a week.  And we haven’t filled that propane tank yet this summer. It gives off heat, but not a crazy amount, I would compare it to an outdoor heater on low. Perfect for when the sun goes down and the air cools off. It will take us well into fall for outdoor entertaining!

Home Decor || My 3 Easy Hostess Tips with @TheBrick || #partner

IMG_9331We love to host guests! When we moved in last year, the kitchen was the first renovation update we tackled. With some help from The Brick we found 3 amazing appliances that help us cook, gather and celebrate in the heart of our home. For the majority of the week we have friends and family stop in for a visit like an endless revolving door. Let me tell you, having last minute guests keeps you on your toes! Over the years, we developed some simple tricks to hosting a large or a small group with relative ease.

1) Add bouquets throughout your home. It doesn’t matter if you buy flowers or cut them from your own garden the end result is the same… that heavenly smell. Florals have a way of keeping your house smelling fresh and light. Remember to change the water and recut the ends to prolong the life of your gorgeous blooms.

2) Have all the fixings on hand to throw together a small charcuterie board. We went with this Whirlpool all-fridge from The Brick for a reason. We love to eat fresh ingredients we rarely eat frozen. This way we have all the room we need for infused waters, chilled Prosecco, pre-made salads. Plus all the meat, cheeses and olives any great charcuterie would need. Because we are not preparing from frozen, I can put together a snack for my guests in minutes thanks to this fridge.

3) Have plenty of counter seating. The kitchen is the heart of our home, naturally whenever we have a gathering most guests gravitate to it. I love our counter seats, they allow our guests to chat with us while we prepare a meal. We can sip, gab and snack along the way without the separation of the host from their guests while cooking. It’s so casual, it has a way of making our guests feel right at home.

Lifestyle || Restaurant Quality Barbecuing || How To: Himalayan Salt Stone Edition with @TheBrick #partner

Summer is officially in full swing and you know what that means… it’s BBQ season! Next time you’re hosting guests definitely think about investing in a quality Barbecue. Look for key features like: temperature gauge, large surface grilling area and quick easy flame starters. We love to entertain outdoors so when I saw the Park Terrace 7 piece dining set I had to have it. The large table is perfect for hosting our Sunday family dinner and the glass top is easily cleaned in seconds.

We took our grill game this year to the next level with a Himalayan salt stone. We can use it directly on the surface of the barbecue we found at The Brick. I know I was a bit intimated by these stones when I’ve seen them in cooking magazines and culinary chef shows. But now that we’ve started using them I know how easy and how amazing they season whatever you’re cooking. Here are my easy tips for achieving restaurant quality meals at home with your grill:

1) SLOWLY heat stone! This is key for the longevity of your salt stone. I put mine directly onto my grill, set heat to the lowest setting. I let it slowly heat for 15 minutes at a minimal. Then you can up the heat and start grilling! If you start on high heat you may crack your stone. At home hack: don’t have a grill? I use this stone in my GE range oven too.

2) The longer the food stays, the more seasoned it will become. We usual do our steaks 2 minutes per side on the salt stone, then transfer to the grill fast minute to get those crispy black grill marks.

3) It’s not just for meat! We anything from steaks, to mushrooms to lettuce hearts for salads. Seafood too!

4) Clean up is easy and fast. Don’t use soap but instead lightly rinse with water, scrap any big bits off and pat dry. Easy as that!

Happy Grilling Friends!IMG_8119 Continue reading
